Army: St. Bernard - Big and sloppy, but very reliable for the long haul.
Air Force: Poodle - Very cute and cuddly, but remember the poodle was bred as a hunting dog
Navy: Golden Retriever - Has long hair and loves the water
Marines: Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat.”

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Like what they do? Because each branch has a variety of things they do, not just one thing. Like, you can't say the Air Force flies planes and the Navy sails boats.
Comments
Air Force - Protect the skies / transport cargo and personnel
Army - Largest branch mostly ground and occupation
Navy - Maritime patrol and offshore fire support
Marines - A mix of all three
Coast Guard - Border security / Search and Rescue / Interdiction
To be very simplistic:
Army is the primary fighting force
Navy is the ocean-based branch
Air Force is, of course, the air branch
Marines are primarily an amphibious branch, utilizing Naval and Air forces to rapidly deploy
Coast Guard is also water-based, but tends to stay closer to home and patrol the coasts
These, again, are VERY simple explanations, but may serve as a general idea.

Army- Hard.
Marines- Lunatics.
Navy- I like the easy life.
Air Force- I joined to fly and ended up guarding the gate.
Coast Guard- I want to stay at home and not go to iraq but still wear a uniform.
Nutz said it best...
