Mercedes 190E Cosworth?

I was looking at the old 80s Mercedes 190E 16v Cosworth, and noticed that the US version has less horsepower than the European one, 167 vs 185. If you owned a US spec Cosworth, how can you tune it to make it the same as European ones? I wouldn't want to make it any faster than that, I would just want it brought back to original European tuning the way it was meant to be. Is this as simple as some minor engine tuning and new exhaust? Thanks!

  • the american version was lower power due to em mission laws imposed on european cars by the american government.

I do not think you could get it up to American standards let alone up to european with an old engine.

  • poor quality gas is the problem you can fit european pistons but you will get pinging and overheating, fitting a supercharger would be the most direct way to go but not on an engine that age without a rebuild but either way you would need to put anti-knock additives in the gas
