Why do Muslims pray 5 times a day?

Are you asking for something specific when you pray?

  • It is perceived as a religious obligation but it is not practical in western society,I have to laugh at the idea of Muslim prisoners in the west given an area to pray, they should be doing a bit of hard work to show them the error of their ways.

  • The importance of the prayer in Islam cannot be understated. It is the first pillar of Islam that the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned after mentioning the testimony of faith, by which one becomes a Muslim. It was made obligatory upon all the prophets and for all peoples.

Muslims pray 5 times a day because it is ordained by God Almighty. It is a means of showing the loyalty, gratitude, modesty and love towards God. No other religion in the world preaches to pray to God 5 times a day. It is only in Islam. This is to remind Muslims that there is an Almighty who created them and to bow their heads in total humbleness towards God. If it is done 5 times a day, one can imagine how close to God one is and that will help to help one abstain from all evil and vices. It makes a human being better. It makes him 5 times better.

In addition, it is not difficult to pray for five times a day as each prayer could take less than five minutes.

  • Because Allah told us Muslim to pray 5 times and also follow the 5 pillars of Islam which praying 5 times a day is one of them.

  • The short answer would be because it is commanded to us by God.

Our prayers consist mainly of praising God.

The benefit of praying 5 times a day for muslims is that it keeps us in remembrance of God, so it helps a lot if we are trying to avoid doing something that might cause us to sin e.g stealing, lying, insulting others etc

It also helps us relax from a hectic day, working non-stop at the office can stress out your brain. Taking a few minutes off to pray helps relax our mind and help us regain energy to focus on work.

It helps in time management, when we go out with friends etc we would plan ahead of schedule to figure out when/where we can pray later on. Since we are not at home where we can pray anytime/anywhere, planning is important when you intend on performing your prayers outside. This habit is usually brought forward to other things in life which require planning and time management.

It gives us discipline, I'm sure you can imagine that its probably not easy to have to pray 5 times a day, especially out of your own free will. Its not, especially for new muslims as they are used to carrying out their day without having to plan where to pray. You will find that for those muslims who DO practice their 5 daily prayers, they would usually have good discipline. In conduct as well as other aspects of life.

    Salah is a self programming

Salah is you are washing your sins

Salah shows you a good way of life

People did perform salah in previous times as well as all the Prophets of God did at that time and they all fell down on their face as it mentions in the Bible and the fundementals of salah is still the same that is Prostrations/Sajdha.

Islam Completes the faith and closes the chapter to the Mankind as a guide book for mankind to follow ordered by GOD is to worship 5 times a Day.

Before guidance came to the prophets before Mohammed pbu was meant to follow for a while until the next Revelations to come as Prophets and messengers.

Islam came in to the world since Adam pbu came and Mohammed pbu is not the founder of Islam but he came to complete the Message is to worship one God without associating partners with God or towards god creation.

Also he is the seal of all The Prophets and messengers of God such as Noah, Ibrahim, Moses, Jesus pbu them all.

So Salah was prescribed by God all the time to the people of time but it was little bit diffrent but the foundation and fundamental is the same is Prostration/Sajdha.

Salah is the key to enter Paradise

  • The most important part of prayers is the first chapter of Quran, which

we have to recite in the beginning of 5 daily prayers. We thus ask

Allah to guide us to the straight path which leads us to the destination

of those righteous people who earned Allah's favor and we at the

same time request Him to save us from the path of those on whom

the anger of God fell and also from those who were lead astray.

( Read Jews for the first and Christians for the second).

It is believed that as a response to this prayer, Allah saves us from

sins up to the time of next salat (prayer) begins. Then if we pray

again, we are saved once more. If someone fails to pray, he could

    be lead astray by satan.

  • The reason I do it is because God has told us too, it also clears your mind and puts you at peace - like meditating.

Each prayer is up to 10 minutes, so thats only about 50 minutes you miss out on the day out of 24 hours.

Not a lot to ask for to be honest.

  • We recite verses of the Quran and we can pray directly to God at certain times during the prayer.

We believe all God's commands are good for us.

It is only a burden on the hypocrites.

  • Firsly, the five prayers are ritual prayers so we are not asking for our own personal things in these prayers. Our own personal prayers we can perform as often or as rarely as we want and ask for anything we want and that is up to the individual.

    Benefits of praying five times a day;

    - Allah told us to, and He will reward us for this.

    - Helps us to build a personal relationship with our Creator.

    - Improves our obedience and mindfulness to our Lord, which will hopefully help us to remember Him in everything that we do and worship him often, which He will then reward us for.

    - Improves time keeping/time management/ organisational skills (because we must do our prayers during certain times of the day and ensure that we are always able to so, where possible).

    - Before we pray, we do a ritual cleansing, so regularly washing in this way helps us stay clean and pure, and encourages us to remember to be clean and pure wherever possible, which Allah will reward us for.

    - Praying in congregation (whether at a Mosque or just with family or friends in somebody's house) helps to propagate a sense of brother/sisterhood that Islam places a lot of emphasis on. People meet new people in the Muslim community because of this, and friendships and even marriages are forged from meeting in this way.

    - They are like "time outs" for our day where we can relax and focus solely on Allah instead of all of the worldly troubles that we tend to get bogged down in during our time on Earth.

There are probably more but these are the first ones I thought of :)

  • ermm well i think its cuz god told us to, and everything is a test so may be god wants to see how well we are doing, and its a way of taking time out from worldy life and just having a connection with god. and yeah, i ask for specific things atnthe end of the prayer too. :)
