do Combat Cameramen use M14s?
i was talking to my friend who told me that combat cameramen only use side arms yet i asked my ROTC supervisor and told me that he saw one that had his m14 clipped to his vest i was just wondering if you are allowed to carry an assault rifle with you if you are a combat cameraman?

Your friend is an idiot or ill-informed - take your pick. Combat Cameramen carry rifles and pistols.
I think you misunderstood your ROTC instructor: I am sure he said "M4", as we have not used the M14 as a general issue rifle since 1967 and only designated marksmen carry a version of the M14 now.
First I think you mean an M4- the M14 EBR weighs about 11 pounds.
I don't know what your friends credentials are but your ROTC instructor probably did see a combat cameraman with an M4 carbine strapped to his back if he said he did.
No one except Designated Marksmen use the M-14 anymore.
1st off we haven't carried m14's en mass since prior to vietnam
