How do you cook carrots?
I want to make regular cooked carrots. I don't want to sautee them, I don't want to use ANY type of oil (even if it's a small amount), and I don't want to use an oven.
I've tried boiling them in a pot of water, but they never get soft. Is there a certain way you're supposed to boil them? Just so they're soft. Thanks.
Update:Okay, how long then?

Peel if required and chop into chunks, or slice, or dice.
I generally chop into 1" chunks and split them by length. (2 or 4 depending on fatness)
Cover with enough water and bring to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer for 15-20 minutes, depending upon the size of the pieces and how soft you want them.
Make sure you cut the carrots in bite size pieces. Place them in water just to cover and boil them, you probably haven't boiled them long enough.
Usually about 5-10 minutes. after about 5 minutes, stick a fork in them if they are soft they are done, if they are hard cook a little longer, keep doing this until they are the consistancy that you want.
I don't care for them soft, I like a little crunch left in. My favorite way is sliced thin then I cook over low heat in a covered pot with a little butter & brown sugar. If you want to try this leave out the butter. It only takes a few minutes but make sure you have a tight lid to hold the steam in. They will make their own syrup when cooked this way. Very tasty.
Well let's put it this way, you get almost if not less than half of the nutrition that you should've gotten from a non cooked carrot, so what's the point of eating it cooked? Well don't get me wrong though, I know everyone has their own tastes, so you are definitely entitled with yours, but I'm just clarifying.
You don't boil any veg till it gets soft, you'll cook the goodness right out of the carrot. Just boil them tops of 5 mins, and enjoy!
Hello there
First of all, carrots are not supposed to be boiled soft because then it taste terrible.
Slice each carrot in about equal sizes and cook them about 5 minutes. Let them be warm and crispy that's when carrots taste best.
Carrots are pretty thick, so it helps to cut them up into small, bite-sized portions to help them cook quicker. It can take quite a few minutes for them to go soft.
Alternatively, you can steam them instead of boiling them. This will still take a while.
You can try steaming the carrots
Edit : here's a website with the full recipe :-)

Slice them thinly and steam them, add a little honey when you serve them
