How Do I Fix My Computer?
Okay, I don't know if this actually is fixable and I know most people are going to be like, "Get a new computer, it isn't worth fixing,". Well, the thing is, my mom's going to be really upset if she finds out about her computer. I want to fix it real bad, but I don't know how to.
Here's the info on it:
Dell Inspiron 1150
Fairly old, like 6 or 7 years.
How it Broke:
I was online, looking up the lyrics to Walk Through the Fire from that Buffy episode and I had Word '07 open because I felt like translating something and then poof. A blue screen came on for a second, literally, like one second and then the screen went black and it started up again. It became frozen when it was starting windows for five minutes so I turned it off. I tried to boot it up again. It made all the running sounds, but still kept the screen dark. And when I turned it off, all I had to do was barely touch the button and it stops running. I decided to let it cool off before I try anything. Oh, I also took out the battery and put it back in.
Can someone with more computer knowledge help me?

Seems to me you have a really big virus. the computer itself is not messed up. hardrive sounds like it works and the processor also. i know this because how you say pushing the button still makes it turn off. battery has nothing to do with it. thats just for the clock and to save your stuff when its off. You might want to reinstall Windows (the operating system) but you might have to use someone else's computer to download windows xp sp3 and burn it on a cd or put it on a usb drive. hope i helped
Nearly 20% of Dell laptops break down within 3 or 4 years so yours may simply have reached the end of it's useful lifespan. Your mom shouldn't be mad at you, it is very common for laptops to fail after 7 years Some laptops will last much longer but 7 years is about what I'd expect from a budget-priced Dell laptop.

Try booting it up again when it has completely cooled down, if it works then you have an overheating issue - possibly fixable just by cleaning the fans. If it boots up as far as the Dell logo screen but no further then you can try re-installing Windows (if you have the disk) by starting the laptop with the CD/DVD in the drive and using the "boot from CD/DVD" option - I think it's the F12 button on a Dell.
Try booting into "safe mode command prompt" by pressing the F8 key as the pc starts up and from there type
chkdsk c: /r
it sounds as though some of the boot files have become corrupt and that should fix it.
reset the BIOS to reset it look for ur mother board maneul it will say the remove a cap and replace it or something
or
remove the ram and put ti back in
if u have any vga installed remove it
still not workings if u really want to help her out take out the hard drive and et her a new pc
maybe it broke cuz of old age new pc dont cost that much
I don't think you did anything to it. It's pretty old. leave it off so it can cool down and see if it starts up. push the f8 key until a black screen with options comes up. (you have to do this before the windows logo comes up) click on last good configuration.
