How do Australians pronounce "shan't"?

Sharnt or share'nt?

  • That word isn't in the Australian vocabulary, tbh. You'll look pretty silly, and I'm not sure if I've ever heard anyone here say it. But in any case, hypothetically speaking, its "shahnt".

However, I would strongly suggest saying "won't" instead, pronounced exactly as you would say it.

  • Sharnt

  • Sharnt Doris dear

  • how can you even answer this? can you send a voice answer with this website? and when it comes to dictionaries I can read and pronounce the real spelling more than I can pronounce the pronunciation spelling of that word written next to it. for example, sphinx is pronounced Φίξ /Phix

  • i'm not sure what those two spelling are supposed to sound like. i think we pronounce it 'shant', like we don't pronounce an 'r' sound.

  • No one ever says that words, as it is old. I, however, tend to say it with a short 'a' sound, rhyming with 'hand' and 'can'.
