Does Aspartame turn into Formaldehyde?
Does Aspartame turn into Formaldehyde and if it does when and how? Does it need to be heated to a certain temperature? Or does it just break down into Formaldehyde? If you can, please leave links to your source! And try to have it be a "trust able" source.

Aspartame is a methyl ester of aspartylphenylalanine. Enzymes in the body hydrolyze it to aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. Other enzymes oxidize the methanol first to formaldehyde, then formic acid. I'm not sure what happens next. Either the formic acid is further oxidized to carbon dioxide and water, or it is eliminated in the urine.
