If you do have new carpets, it's recommended that you leave the windows and doors open for about an hour a day for two weeks. Millions of women every year remodel and "nest" before their babies are born. You can also stay somewhere else while the actual remodel is being done. I think vacuuming daily would help Air filters would be great too. Make sure the air filter in your house is changed often. There's a lot you can do there is MORE concern about infants being exposed to this stuff rather than pregnant women. There's a lot of emphasis on "nose to floor" contact with babies on new carpets. So I feel it is best to do it while pregnant rather than after the baby is born.
Maybe not sids, but yes, new carpet has a lot of chemicals in it that let off fumes that aren't good for anyone, pregnant or not.
Although a really old, nasty carpet could be just as bad...you have no idea whats in it. When you get the new carpet, keep the windows open and fans on for a day or two.
