You have to be Catholic. If are already a Catholic you need to go talk to a priest and he will help you on the path. My cousin in law professed his vows last year. Good luck and God bless.
2. Get a priest and/or a spiritual director to talk to you about your possible religious vocation.
3. Contact a monastery that interests you.
4. Not all monks become priests. To become a monk, one first must become a postulant, during which time the man lives at the monastery to evaluate whether he is called to become a monk. As a postulant, the man is not bound by any vows, and is free to leave the monastery at any time. If the postulant and the community agree that the postulant should become a monk, the man is received as a novice, at which time he is given his religious habit, and begins to participate more fully in the life of the monastery. Following a period as a novice, usually six months to a year, the novice is given the option to take the solemn vows, which can be renewed annually for a period of years. After a few years, the monk can make permanent vows, which are binding for life.
5. And of course, very importantly, always try your best to follow the Lord's commands, and always leave your heart open to Him and let your soul be humble and silent so that you can hear Him clearly.
God Bless you and best of luck on your journey to live God's Will !!!
well a monk is really a priest, only a monk doesnt generally go out in public to help the peoples, they help people by praying alot during the day(and maybe night, depends) in the monastery.
also, one must not be married to become a monk, and there are different orders, eg. franciscans, cistercans and dominicans,(the best im my opinion lol )
each order may differ a little in their routines and customs so make sure to talk to a priest;)
Maybe the idea seems attractive to them because they don't know what it really involves. Being in a big historic abbey, doing a bit of singing, doing a bit of praying, generally having a pretty relaxed life. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a soldier. That was before I found out about my uncle who fought in WW2 and came back with PTSD and was never ok for the rest of his life. That made me think twice. In the same way, a child who realises that its for life, you have to be celibate, you have to be poor, etc. may find it all a bit less exciting.
Some people have been called to Orders or converted while reading the Bible. Try reading the full New testament in an easy to read modern translation like the Good news Bible.
