Car battery problem, HELP?

I changed the battery today because the old one wouldn't hold a charge, and was cracked. After I put in the new one it was doing the same thing, the solenoid just click-click. Could the new battery not be charged all the way, or could there be another problem. Thanks for your answers.

  • its the starter motor.

  • New batteries are normally charged. I would look at a bad cable or a bad, dirty ground cable. Bad,dirty cable going to the starter. It could even be a bad solenoid or starter. Good luck.

  • Could be the alternator/starter. If not maybe the carbon may be gone and its not charging the battery when the car is on.

  • most new batteries are fully charged and ready to go off the shelf... but there is Always a chance to buy a defective one.. they should at least test it before sending you out the door.. take it back and have them load test it.. if it passes then you have a connection problem or starter problem

  • Check the connection, sounds like your not making a good connection, wire brush the terminals, if not you might need a selinoid/voltage regulator replaced. Different on each cars but thats a general rule of thumb.

  • You have a bad cable. Check both battery cables and their connections. Something isnt making a solid connection somewhere.

  • sometimes the cable builds resistance, make sure you have 12volts at the starter, if you do, your starter is most like fully bad

  • it could be your alternator
