My goodness, some of these answers seem very exaggerated. I define being able to speak a language as at least being able to hold a decent normal conversation in it as bare minimum, which I think would cut down a lot of people's numbers here.
I speak German, French and English and work as a translator.
I speak French as my first language due to my living in a small french speaking community in South Louisiana, English as a second language and I am fluent in Spanish as well due to my sister-in-law being from Argentina. By the way, I am going to LSU to become a high school French and Spanish teacher and i think it is absolutely idiotic that I have to take classes to earn a degree in languages that I already speak.

I speak 6 languages, 5 of them fluently. They are: Russian, Hebrew, English, French and Spanish, and I am studying Level 7 of Japanese.

Well, I'm from India, the land of many languages. Let me do a self check.
Speak : English, Bengali, Assamese, Hindi, Punjabi, Kannada and Tamil
Read : All except Kannada and Punjabi
Write : All expect Kannada and Punjabi
So...seven. But I guess I'll have to learn French or Spanish or both to be truly internationally comfortable.
I can speak 3 languages but i understand 4 languages.
