How does a doctor know?

When someone is dehydrated to the point they need to stay in hospital to have IV fluids? Like if someone went to the emergency room, how would the doctor know or find out? I'm doing research for university, thanks! :) x

  • they look dried out, tired appearance, may have tenting of skin due to poor skin turgor, may have dry mouth/tongue, may have increased heart rate. their urine might be dark and concentrated, and have "ketones" in it, which show in urine when we are in a starvation mode. they may have other lab abnormalities due to low blood flow to kidneys (elevated BUN blood urea nitrogen, or elevated creatinine).

  • Cuz he went to medical school.... Idiot
