What does trade diasporas mean?

I am trying to write a paper on World History and I am having trouble exactly understanding what the term trade diasporas means. The question I am having to answer is "Do you think that the creation of networks of global commodity exchange transformed how these trade diasporas operated?" Now I feel like if I had a better understanding of this term, that I would be able understand the question. So can somebody please help. Thanks.

  • It basically means the people using trade routes.

  • Trade diasporas are communities of merchants living within an alien population. These communities evolved along long-distance trade routes because people of different languages and customs need mediators to negotiate transactions across cultural barriers.

  • You question seems to indicate you think this is somehow wrong. You obviously don't have a clue about what motivates Canadians. We are very proud of being Canadian, however we temper that with a curiosity about the world around us. We also don't particularly appreciate discriminatory ideas, such as the ones you slyly spout about other nationalities. All are welcome here - just park your hatred at the border.
