Troglodytes: How do you deflect opposite-sex advances?

Last year I was at an out-of-state convention with three straight classmates. While waiting for check-in time at the hotel, I fell asleep in the lobby. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was being visually dissected for half an hour by a girl sitting on the couch across from me. My classmates pointed her out to me later that day, and I must say, she was HOT! Extremely HOT! She relentlessly pursued me over the next two days like a hungry cheetah after a gazelle. She even managed, somehow, to have her seating reservations changed, so that she ended up at my table for the banquet on the final day. My straight friends kept urging me to reciprocate, but I hid under the guise of shyness. I thought my cover was going to be blown.

  • I imagine that the quickest way to get her to leave you alone would be to make her angry. Although, it wouldn't be very nice, and there might be negative consequences.

However, it would have the benefit of making people think that you were the "typical man" that didn't care about women.

My best advice: Forget the subterfuge and just tell people to mind their own business. There are plenty of "quality" dating services out there. You don't need their help.

  • OMG. At work, I get guys who hit on me all the time or always check me out.. I just act like a hard-a*s bi*ch.. That usually turns them off... If that doesn't work, I shoot 'em a dirty look.. I don't really care about them thinking I'm a lesbian, though.. So something like this might blow your cover.. You could just act oblivious.. or uninterested.. If you act uninterested, people won't necessarily think right away that you're gay... For all they know, maybe you have a hotter chick waitin' for you at home..

  • troglodytes? that's new one or I am older than I realize.

    I just say I'm married.

  • Return to your own state. You'll be safe there.

  • *sigh*...shyness ruins everything =[
