I HATE "natural" hair?
Though the main question says i hate natural hair, this is NOT the case. Often times when i post a question on here I may get one random answer that helps zero percent., so i made up this title to draw people in (hopefully the right people, lol)
My question does deal with natural hair though:
This is a long story but don't stop reading now, please. My sister, my mother and I all have relaxed hair. My mother and I have hair that reaches to the middle of our back and my sister hair is barely at shoulder length. Her curl pattern is tighter than ours and the hair is a lot coarser. As assanine as this sounds for a grown woman she seems a little jealous. Even though we all go the same beautician, she stopped going to her and now goes to a JCPenney's because she says our stylist is too expensive (whatever, that's an excuse). But I digress.
So my niece (my sister's daughter) has nautral hair (much to my chigrin). My sister is just being lazy with my niece's hair and doesn't want to do anything to it often saying she's just not ready to do something to it yet (she is referring to my sister not the niece). Now when I say: do anything to it; of course I would like her to start relaxing it she is 10, but I would be satisfied with her getting sometype of natural style also.
But all of the afforementiond stuff is old news. Here is the current problem: My sister is just reading random information about "natural" hair on the internet so now she feels as if she is a guru when conversing with me about my niece's hair. This is not the case, I know quite a bit with having a majority of my friends natural with a variety of curl patterns and hair textures, not to mention I've done my research as well. Our own hair stylist has gone natural about a year and a half ago and offered advice in which my sister took about my niece's hair YET she will not let our stylist do my neice's hair whether we silk (press) it or for regular maintenace (as of right now her hair ends are really bad).
My sister went as far as to tell me that straightening (not chemically) will make her loose her curl pattern....OMG! as soon as it is washed it will go back to normal. Plus my sister gets her hair relaxed so she can't be anti relaxer.
What is her deal and how can I or my mother reason with her?
Please take in to account that this African-American hair, and would appeciate if answers would reflect that. So I appreciate the mind my own business type of answers but the child looks a hot mess! And has said that she would prefer her hair look like ours, but because her mother (my sister) isn't "ready" my niece downplays how she actually feels for the sake of her mother's oppinion.
Update:@sunny yay: what is or isnt abuse is subjective. My sister will go to great lengths to get all dolled up hair done (relaxed and colored) new clothes. But could care less if her child looks thrown away and i dont just mean her hair.
Update 3:@delightbunny: my issue with pressing her hair is that, before I even introduced her to the world of natural hair she was flat ironing it. so all of a sudden its going to change her hair?...NO, hasnt changed it till now. Our stylist does do her own as well as other clients hair that is natural that is not straigtening it so whats the deal?

You should let your sister raise her daughter they way she wants as long as it is not abuse.
Not everyone likes locked hair (I do), but people should choose what they want except for the minor child - your niece. She can do whatever she wants when she comes of age.

Actually your sister is right in this case. In my personally experience if I press my natural hair too many times it would actually permanently straighten my hair.
I don't know your sister or you, but I will say if she is having issues with doing natural hair she could try to look for a stylist that specialize in it (and not just pressing it either -_-) so she can how to take care of it.
You know it's not good to put that harsh chemical on a child's scalp. It burns. I think it's great that your sister is teaching your niece to love herself as God made her.
How can you hate natural hair if you've never tried going natural yourself?
Chill out.
everyone hates natural nappy hair so i understand you
oh god you wrote a book.
