Does anosmia go away?

So I have been anosmic since I had a concussion at the age of 3. I had a brain scan done when I was a child and they told me that the nerves are dead. Recently(in the last 2 years or so) I have started to experience something like what I think smelling is like(it feels like I am tasting strong odors with my nose is the best way I can describe it) and I was wondering if it is possible that my sense of smell could be coming back or is it just some miswiring in my brain? I really don't want to be able to smell again as it hurts and adds more complexity to human interaction.

  • Obviously, it depends on the cause of the anosmia. The plasticity of the brain might mean some neural adaptation has taken place.
