VCR flicker problem?

Bit of a strange problem see what you can make of it

When i play a video tape the picture flickers but when i stop the video the screen goes blue and says L-2 and dosen't flicker, so it cant be the Video player out putting a flickering image other wise the blue screen image (which is also an out put from the VCR) would flicker too, but it doesn't. I have also tried different video tapes all of which work fine on my other machine but the image still flickers when playing. It also cant be my TV because i have tried pluging both my sky and dvd player into the VCR's input and they work fine. Niether can it be a cable problem because i have swapped scart cables with some of my other equipment and i still have the flicker. what could it be?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.

  • If the video heads are dirty it will give this affect. Don't use a head cleaner in the vcr either, I've seen them actually cause similar problems like this.

I've also seen a damaged head cause this too. If you can take the cover off the machine & spin the drum (when you look inside through the door, the drum spins on a motor on a slant) which has the heads on it, you may actually see one of the heads sticking out (or hanging out ) more than the other. If you are familiar with a vcr you would be able to tell right away by feeling each head. The resulting effect is like a sputtering sound on the tv.

  • Could be The Video and tv dont support each other causeing the interfearance. Try removing everything and connect just the TV and Video and start adding extra equipment after each try then see what causes the fault
