Same day Braces?

So on Tuesday I went to the dentist. This was my first time back since 2011. I know wow. Anyway they took new Panoramic X-rays and regular x-rays. They also recommended that We look into orthodontists. So I found one near by. The thing is I am SO tired of having crooked teeth I need them fixed! Do you think if My dentist were to send the X-rays to my ortho would I be able to get braces on the same day? Please help this is driving me crazy! Thank you!

  • It's possible, but unlikely

Unless they have a machine to do really detailed X-rays (beyond what a regular panoramic X-Ray will show), they will probably want to make molds of your teeth (they are basically realistic models of your teeth they can see and study to decide how to best treat your case), and that could take weeks if they are busy

There are also a number of things the orthodontist may think would help your case, which could be spacers (if they use molar bands), appliances, or if you have enough crowding they may want you to get extractions

All of those things also delay the process from a few days to possibly months

Even if none of those things are involved in your case, the consultation itself can take a few hours, and putting on your braces can take up to around 2 hours

So if you want braces on the same day of your consultation, it will take anywhere from 3-5 hours, and they may be too busy for that or might need to stay past closing time, which they may not want to do

I happened to have my consultation and braces put on the same day, but that's because my orthodontist office has one of those detailed 360 degree x-Ray machines I mentioned and they had an assistant and orthodontist willing to stay past regular closing time to put my braces on

It took from around 2 pm to past 6 pm for them to do everything and they usually close at 5pm, but my experience is the exception rather than the rule

It's very likely at the earliest they will do your consultation at one appointment and then fit your braces on the next
