Can I use a PS3 controller from a different PS3 system?

Want to play some 2 player games with my friend tonight; and I can borrow another PS3 controller from somebody else for just a day. Will it work?

  • yes but u will need to register it with ur system. Plug the borrowed controller via usb then press the ps button and wait till u see one of the number leds settle(should be number 2 if u have 2 controllers) then unplug it and it will automatically be connected Wirelessly as controller number 2.

  • Yes because it's still a PS3 controller. You can also use any USB gamepads used for the computer for the PS3. I've tried it and it is much cheaper to get a normal computer gamepad as a second controller.

  • Yeah, and if im not mistaken. You can have up to 7 ps3 controllers connected at the same time to the same ps3.

  • connect your ps3 controller to the ps3 system you want it on with the usb cord and then press the PS button on the ps3 controller.

  • Yes you can, simply plug the controller into the system and press the PS button and it will connect to your PS3 and let your buddy no to plug it back into his when you return it.

  • controllers are not locked to any console. Just plug it using the USB cable to pair it with your PS3. Your friend has also to plug it back to his own PS3 to pair it again with his console when he gets back home.

  • yes it will work i do it all the time with my friends

but when you use a different controller you have to sign your controller up, so just hook you controller to the usb and it will find it so you can play with your friends

  • it will cause it is bluetooth and it will detect the remoter dont worry
