Do colleges/companies accept some fanart in art portfolios?
I'm a senior in high school and want to get into art college for illustration and become a 2d concept artist for video games and/or movies.
My old art teacher taught us a lot of portfolio building and I have a large portfolio of art projects/independent work that is my own original making of varying mediums.
However once in awhile I'll draw some fanart, and some of it I'm really proud of. Would it be okay if a couple fanart pieces slip into my portfolio for college applications?

Fanart suggests you are taking existing art and putting your spin on it. While this is an age old thing artists do, you would be wise to limit it to a piece or two in your portfolio (or leave it out altogether.)
The way art changes and advances is for artists to try new things and develop original ideas. You need to prove to college art professors that you do have an original point of view and are worthy of a spot in their class rooms.
Anybody can mimic existing work, your job is to show that you have imagination and talent.
No, absolutely not. You do not want to include fanart in your portfolio. Please do not include this. It would not be looked on well. Do not include it. It's not appropriate.
