1989 Honda Prelude idle thermo problem?
When i'm in idle, the revs fluctuate as soon as the thermo kicks in. When there's no thermo running, the idle is normal, but as soon as it starts, it feels as though it's about to stall (it's an auto). Could it just be a dirty IACV? I've seen a couple of solutions online but all them pretty much require me to take apart the engine and i don't particularly want to do that! Also, would cleaning the FITV help? Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!

This could be a number of different issues but my first stop would be the IACV. Try cleaning the IACV first to eliminate this as the cause. Also don't listen to the jackass who told you to get a new car. Rock that 89 Prelude proudly!
If the IACV is not the cause move on to the next component. You sound like you have already done some good research.
Keep in mind after cleaning or replacing the IACV, disconnect your battery for a good 10 minutes to allow the ECU to "relearn" the proper idle.
Good luck!
