9th grade algebra 1: Does this equal 7?

If f(x)=3x-2 find f(8)-f(-5)

This isn't homework, I'm just studying and making sure I understand everything!

I got 7 for this. Am I right?

  • No, the answer is 39. You should pug 8 into the original equation, getting 22. Then, you should plug -5 into the original equation, getting -17. You should then subtract -17 from 22, which is really adding it, because -(-17) is +17.
