Does temperature change during a phase change?

for chemistry.

Update:

explain why or why not

Comments

  • No. The total energy of a system is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy. Temperature is a measure of kinetic energy. During a phase change the binding energy (potential energy) between molecules/atoms changes.

  • No, because the available energy is going into changing the phase, not increasing the temperature.
