How does birth control fail?

i saw this commercial for this stuff you use when your birth control fails and thought it meant when you got pregnant but then it said that if you were pregnant not to take it i dont understand if your birth control fails then how do you know and if your not pregnant then why do you need to take another pill?

Update:

how do you know if the condom breaks?

  • Birth control does not always mean the pill. Condoms are birth control too. And if a condom fails, you'll usually know.

When they say that you should not take it (I presume it's some kind of morning after pill) they probably mean that you should not take it if you know for a fact that you're pregnant. Because then it's too late for it to work. Morning after pills are not abortion pills.

If a condom breaks, you don't know if you're going to get pregnant. But you might. That is the kind of situation that the morning after pill was meant for.

  • I think it is the politically correct way of saying for all you dummies who don't use a condom when you should, here's a second chance so you won't be popping out a baby you don't want. I know that there is always the chance of a broken condom, but other than that, it may be several weeks or even months before you realize your birth control (like the pill, or IUD, or Depo) has failed.
