How do I take away a professor's career?

I had a very poor professor (my violin teacher) at the college I attended. Not only did she wrong me, but I have heard similar reports of her unprofessionalism with other students and even faculty members. In my opinion, she shouldn't be teaching. However, she has tenure, so that makes things tricky. Any suggestions on how to either force her to change her ways, resign, or at least to warn students about how horrible she is?

  • Unless you're delusional, or a particularly poor student or have some strange personality problems, then you are not the first student to be unhappy with this prof, so you don't need to feel uniquely responsible for doing something.

She has tenure so you can't do anything realistically to get rid of her. That leaves you with trying to get her to change her ways (which seems like a long shot - why should she change when she's in no danger of losing her job), or warning other students about her. I guess warning students is really the only thing you can do - but just don't do it too overtly or you may end up in trouble.

I once had an unfair and unprofessional professor; all I did was put the whole episode behind me as quickly as possible - took a lot less energy than unrealistic fighting or complaining.

  • This is a tricky situation. I once had a professor who graded me unfairly due to my political beliefs, two TA's who were some friends of mine and another Associate Prof, let me know what was going on. Basically what I did was file a complaint, but I had legal grounds to do so, your situation does not sound so blatant. If you really, really, really want to cause trouble you should be able to contact your Academic Standards Committee, it may be Academic Standards Board depending on where you go to school.

Good luck on maybe ruining someones life for what sounds like no good reason!

  • You're a very hateful mean-minded spiteful vindictive person.

The college would have checked her academic and musical credentials very carefully. She is a genuine qualified musician - and what are you? Merely a student with a very unpleasant personality as well as someone almost unbelievably arrogant and full of herself

  • Get a life. Move on. Jeez!
