4GB RAM System fails to boot?

I just got an 850 watt psu, and it did not solve my problem. It will not boot with 4gb of RAM, and it boots up to the point of the vista loading screen with 3gb of RAM, and boots up just fine with 2 and 1gb of RAM.
Update:I am trying Non-Redneck's solution now. Last year, I was running x64 bit vista with the same 4gb of RAM with no problems. This problem only occurred when I reformatted my system to do a clean install of windows. I do not have this problem with x86 vista, I can boot up no problems with all 4gb of ram using x86. But, being a 32 bit os it does not recognize all 4gb.

See if this patch works. Boot up with 2GB, install it and shut down. Install the other 2GB and cross your fingers.

It assumes you are running Vista without Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed. Be sure to download the correct version for your OS (32-bit or 64-bit)
sounds like an issue with the motherboard, are you using 64bit vista?
might need to flash the bios, try running a memory test using your vista boot disk it will show where errors lie
there are other things to be considered
Is the hot RAM nicely matched with ur motherbord? some motherbords can actually cope with limeted length of RAM length i.e, finished length of 512MB etc. you need to aslo tray to work out once you may want to modify the clocking on the bootup mainue even if conselt to motherbord consumer manoul for this. desire this halped sturdy success
it is probable that your RAM is not at the rated speed for the motherboard spec.
Ram is often sold as "backward compatable" meaning they will work on a slower motherboard, but often this crippples the power supply to the RAM, causeing fataql error. it is common in laptops where the power bus is weak.
Buy ram rated at the spec of the mother board.
sounds to me like your system can only take a max of 3gb of ram.
