Am I qualified to transfer into Columbia?
I was (illegally) not allowed by my parents to attend high school for religious reasons. I am now in my mid-twenties and have had a successful career in public relations. I passed my GED with an absolutely perfect score and am now attending a community college in New York City which has a transfer agreement with Columbia. I completed my first year with a 3.9 GPA. I am fluent in Russian and Spanish, active in several student organizations, and scored in the 98th percentile on my SATs. I would imagine that I would be an attractive candidate for transfer but I am worried that the fact that I did not attend high school will be held against me despite the fact that I have demonstrated a high level of achievement.
Does anyone have any insight to how this would be viewed by an admissions board?
Update:Jdubb, don't be an asshole. They certainly do. The city college I attend has a specific transfer agreement/program with Columbia. Plenty of intelligent people end up in community college for financial reasons. I'll bet my SAT scores knock yours out of the water.

They won't care about high school. You sound like a strong candidate. As someone in your mid twenties you would be ideal for their General Studies Program, a program for older, returning students.
They don't care if your from a community college. You have the same chance as someone with your stats from Harvard. I think you have a good chance, but would like to let you know that Columbia is a very hard school to get into. People with perfect GPA's, and SATS still don't get into Columbia and other Ivy's. They really don't care if you didn't attend high school, but as long as you have that GED that is fine. Good Luck, hopefully your dreams come true!!!
