I don't actually feel the need to label them at all, they are just Celtic to me. If you are going on technicalities, I'd say originally they were an Irish/Catholic club based in Scotland. They were clearly located in Scotland, but quintessentially Irish in make up.
I suppose at the end of the day, they are many things to many people and there will always be a slight division, between those leaning towards all things Irish and those who have grown up in Scotland, without all the Irish attachment. I don't think there is a definitive line that can be drawn these days, you can't just call them Irish or Scottish, they are both and have integrated both parts into who they are.
As an irish fan of the club i'd love to say the club is irish but its not, all success the club has had is because of the fact it's scottish and playing in the SPL. The irish connection is probably a reason for the great support
a bit of both but mostly a Scottish club as they play in a Scottish league and are based in Scotland and also play a Scottish sport (even though the English claim it's their sport).
If an Italian family moved to Glasgow and opened a restaurant serving Scottish food, eg. square sausage, bridies, haggis, scotch pies, scotch eggs we wouldn't call the restaurant an Italian restaurant but I'm sure we would acknowledge them as Italians so I think Celtic should be acknowledged as being Irish as well as Scottish.
Scottish. At Parkhead I've met probably as many fans of Italian, Welsh or English decent as those coming over directly from Ireland. All of these are outnumbered by those proud to be Scottish.
I've heard scottish people in scotland saying celtic are a irish club based in scotland. They were formed to help the irish immigrants , alot of their worldwide support comes because they are known as irish , i always hear scottish celtic fans on here who dont like the fact that the club is so irish even though celtic wouldnt be asbig as it is today if it wasnt for them. Fact is talk about scotland. Rangers have the biggest fanbase in scotland but outside of scotland in ireland and everywhere else makes celtic as big as they are. They aint irish they are scottish but they are as close as your gona get .
ps thanks for all the thumbs down but just stating facts
celtic are a scottish club in my eyes, they re based in scotland...play in a scottish league...n most of their fans are scottish. saying they re irish is like saying man utd are a chinese club just because they have a large following from that country lol
