Is RAM specific to a computer?
I was thinking of getting 1gb more of RAM and i was wondering if they were made specifically for certain models of laptops. Cause i hear people talking about getting RAM and just popping it in their computer. Is it more complex than that?

Actually, it really isn't as complex as some make it seem. MOST computers use generic RAM, there is the occasional Dell and HP that sometimes have trouble, but if it says something generic like 800mhz DDR2, then you are pretty much guaranteed that any brand of DDR2 is going to fit it as long as its normal SODIMM lappy RAM. A good way to tell is to take out your RAM (it literally takes less than a minute) have a look at it, and if it LOOKS like the RAM on the internet, and fits the dimensions, then most likely it is the same one. The best way to tell is buy from a retail store with a decent return policy. If it doesn't fit, just swap it for another one.
No any agencies form of RAM will fit into any computing device. All you're able to understand is what form of RAM you prefer and what the max your motherboard will assist you place in. as long as your mothboard makes use of SDRAM you're able to no longer have any issues. My previous computing device demands SDRAM and that i replaced into in a position to aquire some form an previous computing device at paintings that my supervisor replaced into going to throw out. All I did replaced into positioned the two 512MB sticks in and restarted the computing device and hit F1 and the computing device reconized the RAM.
RAM is not tied down to a specific computer.
However that is not saying that you could just pop a RAM module from any random computer to another Compatibility for RAM depends on the form factor (pin number), size, bus speed, and RAM technology. All of which depends on the motherboard.
The Crucial website is able to scan your computer to see what RAM it can,

It also has a large database of compatible RAM for various computers and motherboards.

Totally agree with the first answer.
Also u can go to the manufacturer's website of the laptop. Usually they will have lists of compatible RAM, CPUs, etc. that are available for your particular model.
Just go to www.crucial.com . That website will tell you a lot of RAM information, and help select the proper RAM for you.
yes. most manufactors have ram designed just for them. check your type before buying anything.
