B&A: Do you write or read fantasy?
I've been thinking of doing the unimaginable and story-hopping lately--from my more serious and personal novel to something that I want to be a fantasy-ish story. My only problem, of course, is worrying whether or not people really enjoy fantasy.
Do you write fantasy? Any tips? Songs? Ways to get in the other-realm you're creating?
Do you read fantasy? Why/why not?
Thanks.

I've never been a big fantasy fan, and don't read it much. I prefer sci-fi (space opera). However, I find myself writing fantasy (pretty much off-the-wall stuff I don't see in print much). I don't know where it comes from, but am not about to let a good idea go to waste.
I know a lot of book publishers don't like their writers branching out into other fields (genera's) because they don't want to confuse the reader base (or screw with a winning formula), but--as a writer--I always felt like spreading your wings and exploring new ideas is a good thing.
I love to both write and read fantasy for more reasons than one. Fantasy is a refreshing break from the world of realistic fiction. I love having the freedom to come up with whatever I want, and make my characters face things only found in my imagination. When I come up with an idea, it's usually just an inkling, then I think of the characters, and then my story comes into shape. I've had lots of practice writing fantasy over the years, and one of the best things you can do to become a better writer is to read as many good books as you can.
I have actually been trying to write a fantasy based story for months now, running into different roadblocks along the way. It is darned hard to make things fantastic and yet still believable. But yes, I do enjoy a good fantasy tale.
I read and write fantasy. Reading fantasy takes me away from the harsh everyday life most of the time, for example, reading Harry Potter, I fee like I'm there, along with the trio, some unnamed character JK forgot to include. Of course, this may be because of JK's excellent writing.
I'm writing one urban fantasy. It's quite easy because it's set on Earth in modern day. I'd have to spend more time mulling over my other fantasy story which is set on a future earth. Yeah, it sounds like Sci-fi, but it's not.
I read mostly urban fantasy. I prefer vampires when it comes to fantasy and not much else. I'm not really into magic or other fantasy creatures. I do like angels, though, so I'm starting to get into reading more fallen angel novels. I like dark fantasy.
I read fantasy novels, like the Eragon series of books because I like dragons, fairies and things like that. Usually fantasy books are good vs evil and that's always interesting. Fantasy books are my way of escaping to another place and imagining how it would look.
I love fantasy, it is mostly what I write, and what I read. One way to get into the zone to write fantasy is to read fantasy books that will inspire you, and remember; in fantasy, it doesn't have to be possible to be in your fantasy book, magic and mythical creatures are widely accepted in fantasy:)
