Australia?

I always wanted to visit Australia. Now i actually made a list with every single place that i want to visit in my life time.

I'm kind of wondering how it would be to live in Australia. Do you guys know? I heard some amazing things about this continent but i really want to know more. I would like to move there someday.

Update:

I want to know everything there is to know about Australia. I heard from some friends that it is really hard to make Aussie friends. Is that true? And if it's true why is that?

  • it is totally not hard to make aussie friends, we are always up for parties and meeting new people. alot of people that come here from other countries tend to stay by themselves, so you've got to put yourself out on the scene and you'll be fine.

a bit about aus, but first you need to understand that i dont know what to compare it to so here's some stuff u might want to know:

summer is from december to feb, i suggest you visit queensland outside this time period if possible because its so hot there in summer but well worth going to - especially the gold coast.

sydney (where i live) is the only australian city that is has the centre of the city in almost walking distance to the beach. best beaches to visit in sydney i would say coogee and dee why. bondi and manly are famous but way to crowded and overrated. look out for blue bottles there too, they hurt!

if you visit melbourne, go to the victoria markets - they have great bargains (really really great!).

dont get caught up with the tourist souvenirs, they are all chinese made and not typical australian things.

you'll only find kangaroos and koalas at zoos (taronga zoo in sydney is good) unless you go to the sticks in the outback!

domestically, fly with quantas - good prices and best service.

bring sunscreen if u come in summer.

    it barely snows here.

definately go waterskiing while your here, the water is fantastic for that!

the best place in sydney city is the 'rocks' area which is where the harbour bridge is, its just got the best culture with music, foods (nice food not mcdonalds or anything).

if you get lost in sydney, just follow your way back to the centre point tower and you'll get transport to anywhere from there, from bus, train and monorail.

  • Australia!

  • Well, as an Aussie I'd definitely recommend moving here.

    Hmmm, Australia is a ....

    - very multicultural society

    - big on sport, especially footy and cricket

    - very hot summers (plus we're in the middle of a drought)

    - we also have crazy winters - prone to bushfires & floods

    - very friendly people so dont worry about making friends, we're all pretty laid back

    - heaps of employment and education opportunites

    - but MOST important is that you can holiday in Oz as well! Visit the Blue Mountains, Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Cape York, Great Ocean Road ... there's heaps of places to visit!!

    All the best

  • We are a very relaxed people outside the major cities. I would recommend reading Down Under by Bill Bryson, he is a travel writer from america who has seen more of Australia than most Aussies.

  • Australia a pretty cool place to live. You can choose to live right in the city or live more out in the semi-urban/rural areas or you could live in the country areas. The outback is not recommended to live in, lol.

I prefer the semi-urban/rual areas. I've lived in that type of area all my life. Once you get out of the city you'll experience some peaceful and pleasant places. Its a good place to live.

Well Australians are a bit of a strange bunch. Its depends what type of Australian you'll meet.

They vary from fast and quiet city people to slow and loud outback people and everything inbetween.

  • I think Australia is the best place in the world but I may be a little biased because it's my home.

If you can't find climate and surroundings to suit you here you won't find them anywhere. Australia has something to suit everyone.

I don't know why it would be difficult to make friends. We're a fairly easy going bunch here.

If I were researching Australia I'd put things like:

    Australian tropics,

    Australian country towns,

    Lifestyle of Australian People,

Australian snow etc into your search engine. (Google, Ask etc) and go from there.

I'd mostly stick with Australian sites (.com.au or .gov.au) there's a lot of garbage written about us by non-Australians who think they know what their talking about. They're often wrong.

You'll find out plenty about our country and us.

    Good luck.

  • Australia is a great place to live. We have a very good quality of life. We have a unique landscape with unique flora and fauna. It is very clean/unpolluted and we still have lots of space and wilderness areas. There is very little poverty. Four of our biggest cities rate in the top ten most livable cities in the world. Our lifestyle is very lay back and our people are very friendly and welcoming to people of all cultures. It is no wonder that lots of people who visit here then want to move here permanently. You will have to visit and see for yourself.

Your will never never know if you never never go!

  • Don't worry too much about the whats and the ifs ... just do

it :-) Take the leap of faith ... move to Oz ... and good luck!

Have travelled and worked overseas myself and would do it again in a second ...

Looks like Aussies are doing this in increasing numbers too:
