Dog Control?
I just had the dog control called on me because apparently my dog is barking for a half hour at 2 in the morning. Now I must be totally out of it (which I doubt because I have a 8 month old) but I don't hear it. My dog did bark at the paper delivery person around 3 last Sunday but that was it.
The dog control guy was very vague and wouldn't tell me when it happened or who called just gave me a "warning". Actually he asked me if we owned a dog and if it barks! I wish I knew who so I could talk to them. This is the first time in 6 years (that's when I first moved in here, my dog is 10 years old).
Anyway, does anyone know what could happen if I get more complaints? I'm nervous of someone trying to tell me I have to get rid of my dog or something like that. I've never had a problem before I'm a really good dog owner (always pick up the poop, walk her regularly, I try to keep her quiet but she does bark (but not obsessive IMO)).
Update:My dog is not outside all night, she oly goes out when its potty time.

this really shits me to tears... dogs cannot talk.. they bark.. thats what they do.. they bark to warn people of danger and alot of other reasons... i know for a fact you wouldnt let your dog bark obsessivly with a baby in the house.. everyone knows if a baby is sleeping.. you do everything to avoid it being woken up.. including telling your dog to hush if it was barking at 2am!!!
im sorry this was just rambling.. but it really make me mad when people complain about dogs barking.. some people just like to cause trouble...
keep loving your pup..
good luck
I had the same report filed against me. The head of Animal Control come out herself & we stood & talked over my fence for about an half hour. She stayed long enough to see what my dogs bark at. They barked at a neighbor going to his car, they barked at a person walking down the street, they barked at a cat in someone elses yard.
Her words exactly were, "I don't see anything wrong here. Dogs bark, that is what they do."" I did not recieve even a warning. No citation either.
An Animal Control officer would have to sit on your street all night long or until he confirmed a problem or didn't see or hear a problem. They do not have the man power to do this.
They also log their calls so they can provide you with the phone # of the person who called.
Another reason I did not get a citation is because my dogs are trained fence dogs. They alert if anything or anyone is on the street.
ours had the same problem Here are some of the things we tried 1)put a few pennies in a soda can and whenever they try that then shake it near them 2)spray bottle but on the rump not the face(#1 is what our trainer recommended but it didn't work he said that for some dogs water works and for others the can does) 3)we started making regular trips to pet stores (this was because we knew there would be dog people there and they would greet her not the other way around) it could just be that your dog was not socialized enough as a small pup you did not say how long you had owned the dog so this may or not be it Hope this helps!
What happens depends on your city's ordinances and regulations.
Why was your dog out at 2 in the morning? It may be best to keep her inside after a certain time of night and before a certain time in the morning. Often cities have noise ordinances that you could be in violation of if your dog is outside barking. Our city has those after 10 PM.
The best bet may be to just keep an extra eye on your dog and make sure he/she doesn't woof it up too late at night.
Best Wishes!
Is your dog outside all night? You didn't state that. If it is bring it in. I had a similar situation a long time ago. They threatened to take the dog and she barked only when she was going out 1st thing in the morning to go pee.
can't get down on her for the paper delivery person. she's just doing her job. can you keep her inside at night? if not, a bark collar might be your only option. if you can't keep her inside at night, my suggestion would be to just call animal control and ask them. they have plenty of dogs to deal with already and don't want yours too. also, then if they get called again they will know you are concerned and trying to solve the problem.
I would not worry about it, they cannot take your dog away becuase it is barking. As long as the dog is healthy they won't do anything, dont' worry you sound like a responsible pet owner
