Tobradex side effects?

I went to the doctor for a watery eye showing symptoms of a blocked tear duct. After running a drainage test, the results were negative. The doctor prescribed me Tobradex to attempt to clear up an infection if one was present. I did a 4 drop a day, one week regiment. After stopping the Tobradex, I woke up the next day with blurry vision in the eye it was used in. It has been almost 5 days since stopping the medication and my vision still isn't the same as before using it. I had my follow up appointment today and I was told my eyes look great. I still have slight watering. The optician gave me some standard dry eye drops to attempt to clear up the vision problem.

Has anyone experienced worse vision after using Tobradex? If so, how long did it take to get your vision back to normal? Should I be getting a second opinion on my eyesight?

  • Tobradex in my case was a very bad idea. What I realized was that Tobradex is more of a vessel constrictor (gets the red out of your eyes) than an antibiotic to treat infections. Vessel constrictors are bad due to the rebound effect which means that your eyes will be double as red as they used to be. I didn't experience blurry vision but I got severe irritation and allergic pink eye. It cleared up with eye drops that I was prescribed in about 1-2 weeks so I guess that if you follow your opticians advice and eye drop schedule, you'll be just fine in a while. If not, re-visit your eye doc.
