how do you use a digital camera for a cad cam on your PC?

i have a cool pix digital camera ,is it possible to use this for a cad cam on my PC,it seems that when i try it the camera wont open the lens , however it still works for downloading photos

    If your computer is relatively new it will have a camera "chip slot" in the front.
