Take algebra 2 as a senior?

The way it works in my school is that most people take Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and an advanced math (Usually Pre-Cal)

Or you could do algebra 1, geometry, Math models with application, then algebra 2.

Would that look bad on a college resume? WOuld major schools like Texas A&M, not accept me for that?

  • If you are taking Physics your senior year, I would want you to be taking Pre-Calculus at the same time.

Physics makes use of trigonometry (Law of Cosines) and vectors (sum of vectors, resultant vector) skills that are either introduced or covered in more depth by Pre-Calc. I word it like that in case you were introduced to both in Algebra II.

A question to ask yourself: since you already know your college application is going to be competing against many students who took Pre-Calculus, is there any way to justify weakening your appearance and risking "just missing acceptance" just to take "math models with application"?

My gut feeling says, if you knew there was a solid chance they would turn you down, you would discard the notion of "math models" in a heart beat.

So beat the system, over the summer, borrow the textbook for math models and read through it, then when you write out an essay, brag (in a good way) about how you solved a tough problem and came out ahead (you graduate with knowledge in all of the math classes).

  • They may accept you, and then want you to get caught up to Calculus before going onto a scientific, engineering, or mathematics major.

For other majors, you may be fine with just Algebra 2.

  • I think they may accept you.
