How do I fix a really terrible mistake I made?

A friend asked me to hand deliver a Court Summons for Small Claims Court in order for the person he is Suing to appear. As it so happens I delivered the wrong copy to him,"THE ONE THAT WAS NOT NOTARIZED BY THE COUNTY, and instead delivered the copy I was to have Notarized after I had delivered his. The guy has been ditching me and won't come to his door, so there is no known way for me to complete my task.

This guy is also a member of a Motorcycle Club that can do unsavory things at times, but I can handle myself one on one, but not 12 on one. Any thoughts? PLEASE NO SARCASM, I'm trying to right a wrong I have unknowingly committed. Thanks much.....

Update:

No...I am not a Cop. In Wi. anyone can deliver a Summons to the person persons Family member or leave it taped onto his door. As long as it reaches "THEIR ABODE" it is considered delivered.

My friend already knows and he is pissed off to the max, and that is why I am trying to fix this.

  • You have to fess up. Tell your friend you screwed up - have him ask another friend to do it or to hire a professional company to have it delivered that are familiar with how to issue a summons to a difficult recipient. You were doing him a favor - and now it's not going to work because the guy knows what you look like.

  • Are you a cop only cop can deliver summunds

  • Each jurisdiction has different laws on how you may "serve" someone to appear in court. You don't necessarily have to do this in person, it might be enough to leave it with someone who lives in that house who is 18 years old or older or possibly even just leaving it in a conspicuous location such as taped to the door. Contact the court (or have your friend do it) and ask what you may do to legally serve the notice. Then get a notarized copy and serve it per their instructions.
