Maybe try getting everyone to dress up as something that starts with the letter of their name. For example, if my name was Paris i could dress up as a Princess, or if my name was Fran i could dress up as a Farie. i tryed this for my birthday and it was a whole lot of fun.
For a 30 YO female, I would suggest a Martini party! You have 3-5 stations to make a specialty drink at each station. You can add an appetizer at each station. take it even further by making it a competition. the winning drink gets the first dance with the birthday girl and a trophy. Have the entrants bring the drink recipes. the guest are the judges. Drinks, appetizers and prizes??? what a party!
Theres a thing called a rubiks cube party. All the guests come wearing six items of clothing in the colours of the rubiks cube. by the end of the night, they are to have 4 items of clothing of the same colour by swapping with other guests. Its really fun and it works.
i went to a party where the them was to dress up like your favorite Musician/rock star etc. OMG it was so much fun. it was a HUGE party...there were Madonnas,,,Cher's,,,a group of guys came as the village people... had another group dress up like Spinal Tap..one guy had a Cucumber in his pants and one was carrying around a box with ashes that was labeled Drummer ( have to have seen the movie to get that reference) lots of Jimmy Hendrix....etc. anyways it was funny good time.

Perhaps you could try with old romans costume dresses. Do you remeber movies like"quo vadis" by Charlton Heston and similar?
