Which is a better jig/worm reel: Shimano Citica or Curado?

I have had my Curado for about a half year and just got my Citica in the mail. My Curado is the 7.0:1 gear ratio model, and the Citica is a 6.3:1. I have been debating whether I should put the Curado on my 7'M rod for cranks and spinnerbaits, or if I should put the Curado on my 7' MH rod for jigs and soft plastics. So, which reel, the Citica or the Curado, would be best suited for which technique. The spinners and cranks I'll be throwing are from 1/4 to 1/2 oz. The jigs are mostly 3/8 oz.

  • I would use the citica as the worm reel. a lower gear ratio is the main reason I say that.

  • go with the curado, fer sure. shimano has been switching around features for a couple years now. if you can locate a (new condition) cu200 or cu200b (or the 100 series) on ebay or somewhere, that would be the way to go. it seems the citica has taken over the spot that the curado used to occupy since the introduction of the crestfire or whichever new reel it was that they slipped into that position. the curado is still the one to go with though. unless you should care to upgrade to a chronarch or a core. that's a very good rod. match to it the very best reel you can possibly afford. Ahh, GMB... you make a great point. except for little babies, a curado may not in fact be the ideal reel for peacocks. never having fished there, l have little knowledge regarding florida peacock bass. like how big are they?? from what l've seen on the fishing shows, they are mostly small, a big one being in the 5 or 6lb range. not at all like the amazon tacklebusters and heartbreakers. some of which may run to 30lbs.

  • "I WOULD" go with the Citica with the 7' MH for jigs and plastics & the curado with the 7'M for spinners & cranks.

You will get a good idea of what to use by looking at these combos from Cabelas.

  • I have both reels as well & I would say the Citica is the best choice for this application, due to the lower gear ratio

  • It doesn't really matter. 7.0:1 isn't THAT much of a difference from 6.3:1 when you take "yards of line per crank" into consideration. Slower gear ratio's do help in making you slow your fishing down, but unless you have terrible patience than you can just crank your Curado's handle slower.
