dodo bird, proof of existence?

what proff do they have of the dodo bird, besides that painting?

if it is only a painting how do we no it is real? i could draw some stupid looking thing and in 300 year it would be considered extinct. i didnt do much research though but did they find bones or anything?

  • First, there are lots and lots of records of them. Ships used to routinely stop at Mauritius to collect dodos for food.

Second, this produced multiple paintings by multiple artists, all of which look like exactly the same species.

Third, we have dodo bones practically coming out of our nostrils at this point, including skeletons of juveniles, which are fairly rare in most fossil and sub-fossil records.

  • As stated previously, there are lots of dodo skeletons and bones in museum collections around the world, especially in Europe.

There are very few (maybe only one or two) specimens that include any of the skin or soft tissues, and surprisingly, a dodo was never mounted or stuffed. There are what look like stuffed dodos in some museums, but these are models based on paintings and descriptions.

  • Not only did the dodo exist and go extinct, it did so due to the presence of Eastern Europeans that invaded their habitat and began to destroy it.

First, there are Dodo specimens collected by the naturalists of the day (and preserved) there are the pictures done by several different naturalists (sorry they didn't have cameras back then to appease your sense of propriety) and they have found several remains of the dodo, including skeletons, nests, eggs, etc.

Then again, how do any of us know you exist (except I'm personally incapable of asking such as poorly thought out illogical question).

  • Since they have been gone since about 1680, it seems like they were only a mythological creature. In reality, they were the first recorded human caused extinction.

On the off chance you do decide to actually do a little research on the subject, here's a few websites and (God forbid) a few books.

You might also want to consider using spell check since it's built right into the questionnaire.

  • Mauritius has marked dry and moist seasons, the Dodo in all risk fattened itself on ripe end result on the tip of the moist season to stay for the period of the dry season the place food grow to be scarce; present day comments talk of the birds' "grasping" urge for food. consequently, in captivity with food on hand, the birds could grow to be overfed comfortably. It had lived for hundreds of years on Mauritius with none predators, being the biggest animal then on the island (which includes people - Mauritius had no community people).u discover them on flag of mauritius. it ought to not fly so grow to be common prey.
