Is communism bad?

I mean the form of government itself, followed the way it was made to follow. Because the individual rulers who are corrupt are disobeying the laws of communism.I am having debates in my english class over it and studying it in world cultures. So is it good or bad? Don't use examples of any past communists please. Because they were just people who used communism wrong and I am literally asking if the form of goverment named communism bad.

  • Communism is inherently evil. ANY TIME a person is not rewarded properly for his or her own hard work, it is wrong.

You CANNOT dismiss the past examples because there is one common trait that will ALWAYS be around, and that trait is greed. People in power - no matter what form of government is around - will always be greedy and in a position to better their lives at the cost of millions. It is why hundreds of millions of people suffered under Communism from day one while a small handful lived in luxury.

Communism stifles innovation and technological advancement. If one is not justly rewarded for his or her hard work, there is no incentive to work hard.

Freedoms are not guaranteed under Communism. Everyone, in theory, is treated equal, so the government must ensure that. Secret police departments are created to ensure this. Friend and family spy on each other and live in fear.

And under the Karl Marx Communist Manifesto, Communist governments must be godless to work. Religion will always flourish no matter what the form of government is ... so Communism will always be doomed to fail.

Have a GREAT Army day!! Huah!!

  • No, communism is probably the best idea to ever come in this world. It's an idea where everyone get's an equal share, no rich-poor border, no one person is better than the other, everyone get's an equal shot and equal chance at life. That being said, there are two arguments against this: 1) Communism destroys individual rights and 2) Emperical evidence states communism leaders suck.

Okay to the first one Communism in fact protects individual rights so that the poor aren't any poorer (not literally poorer, I mean less talented, less smart) than they already are but it also limits the rich in a way that they won't be any richer. Communism is nearly like a 'for the greater good' argument where everyone lives (and has rightsthough limited, protected).

As to the second one, Communism is a nearly impossible idea to implement. First of all, not everyone has this mind that thinks: 'oh my neighbor is getting richer, so I'm happy'. In other words, not everyone will be happy that others are getting better while they themselves are limited. There is no benefit for the smarter, the athletic, the charming, the good looking. These people need laws, government to control them yet if we give the gov. power the gov will keep it (USSR etc.) Idealistically, communism is a great idea. In reality though, it's an idea that can never be implemented.

  • It sounds good on paper. Man kind doesn't function like a machine. We need incentives to work rather than just goofing off. Many do just enough to get by. Some will not even do that if they know the government will carry them.

Pure capitalism doesn't work either. No one is willing to work hard enough to supply all of their own needs. Even if they were it would be inefficient.

Then their are requirements for monopolies. The cost of the required infrastructure is so great that to reach economics of scale demands servicing a large group of individuals without competition. Example: Utilities.

Finally have you ever heard of communism ever making a country or it's people wealthy?

  • Communism?

Communist state is a term used by many political scientists to describe a form of government in which the state operates under a one-party system and declares allegiance to Marxism-Leninism or a derivative thereof. Communist states may have several legal political parties, but the Communist Party is constitutionally guaranteed a dominant role in government. Consequently, the institutions of the state and of the Communist Party become intimately entwined.

It's only as good as the ones who abides by it's meaning.

    The main problem.

Not everybody can abide by it. You usually have people that are controlled by the government and are afraid to speak out against any part of it.

[[The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, also known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the June 4th Incident]]

Senseless killings of young people because of what the believed in.

Question. Would you want to live this way? Afraid to speak up and not have a voice in what you believe in and to be told by the government as to what you can and can't do?

  • If you read the Communist Manifesto, you will see that Marx criticizes the state of marriage in Europe as being loveless and political and therefore shallow.

His solution several pages later (I believe it is actually a bullet point in a list of what he wants a ciommunist society to look like) is to abolish marriage.

Now, with THAT kind of (sarcasm) genius resolution to a perceived problem, HOW can communism be any good?

    Communism is unworkable.

  • The only thing good about communism is that if you were a woman you could go out jogging in the middle of the night by yourself and not have anything happen to you.

They take away your freedom of speech and freedom of choice. That's bad.

  • It is a good IDEA. It promotes equality for all, employment, a stable economy, safety, etc.

It just doen't work for humans.

  • It would only work if it was world wide, even then only on paper.

  • Its good.
