Ideal Farm?

If you had the money what would be your ideal horse farm plan be? What would the barn look like, how many stalls, pastures, etc? What kind of stall flooring would you have? How big would your tack room be, would it be air conditioned, and what else would you include?

  • well i'm a simple laid back guy and thats something i never really thought about. but the stalls would be composed of hard oak and redwood boards with black iron bars for doors and windows with the old fashioned red barn and as many stall that can fit in it with 3 pastures two front small one to seperate fillies and stallions and a gigantic one in back for the yungins and seniors. with rubber mats covered with shavings as stall floors. the tack room would be the size of a small city bedroom. yes air conditioned if need be. and an arena indoor and outdoor. also need a round corral. that should cover it all.

  • Well I pretty much have most of my dream barn, but its always a work in progress with trial and error on some things. My barn has 14 12x12 stalls all with sliding walls so am able to convert to foaling stalls if needed. 12x24 tack room, 30 foot aisle way. Our feed room is an old refridgerator truck converted, great for keeping a constant temp. We have a large outdoor ring and round pen. I want a covered ring but that will come eventually. This is all on 64 acres divided into several pastures so we can rotate and seperate as needed. Hay barn is up the road a little ways for safety. If you would like to see some of it go to:

    www.southcornerfarm.com

Right now we are pushing our Boer Goats more than horses so they have taken over the website. Just remeber this is a true working barn.

  • If I had my dream stable..........

It would be nice and big. It would have 10 12x12 stalls, with black iron trim, sliding doors. A dutch door on the other side of every stall that leads to a small turnout pen for eack horse. It would have a lounge. It would have a heated indoor, an outdoor and a dressage arena. It would have a round pen and wash stall, very roomy tack room with air conditioning and heat. The stalls would have simple concrete floors. These would be covered with rubber mats and a thick layer of shavings. Then of course the muck room. This is where you dump all "muck" and it magicly dissapears for free! Yeah! Besides the turnout pens there would also be large paddoks. Am I missing anything? lol!

  • I don't want massively extravagant, but I would 10 acres well laid out and fenced in with white 3 rail either PVC or white painted wood.

I would very much like a driveway that ends in a circle in front of the barn so I never have to back the horse trailer up.

I would like to have 6-8 oversized box stalls that are completely open, and edged in decorative rail trim (like in Black Beauty), and I would like each one to connect to its own dry lot, so I can leave the back stall door open and allow my horses access as they want to the outside or inside. (With plastic slats in the doorway to help keep the barn warmer.)

I honestly would not have air conditioning, but I may have a bullet heater. I just don't think those things are good for the horses, especially since, with temperature control, you need to shut up the barn.

I would like nice conceret floors, but I would really love those rubber paver bricks instead. My tack room would be carpeted or tiled, and mostly the whole barn would be done in wood siding inside & out. Tack room would be big enough to put the horse and pony carts in and get them out easy, as well as neat and organized to store the rest of our tack.

In the ideal world, I would love to have an indoor arena connected to the barn, but I'd be happy with a grassy paddock or the front yard to ride and drive in, or a nice outdoor with good drainage and footing.

I would like all the paddocks to open up at the far end into large grass lots, and I would like the layout in such a way that I could keep the mares separated from the geldings.

I would use bag shavings and have a dumpster service remove the manur, and I would really like to have a cute little tractor or a gator, too. My horses would be fed too much hay every day - nearly a full bale, and they would have a good life.

And most importantly of all, the house on the porperty would have at least one large bay window facing towards the paddocks.

  • Well I would have a barn where I would teach all the lessons and own all the school horses. It would be large with many stalls.

With an indoor arena, a covered arena, two outdoor arenas and the big outdoor with the announcers booth and seating.

Then I will have a lounge, with a kitchen and bathroom and shower, of course!, a TV, couch, you know just the place to hang out.

When you are coming up the drive there are pastures on either side of you and to the right, behind the pastures are my miles and miles of forest trails AND cross country course.

    Big dreams...BIG money

  • i would have a 3-5 stall barn with tack room , just everything you need to own a horse ,like a room a for hay and everything . a indoor arena and a outdoor both BIG and 2-4 acres of land for horse grazing and access to trails. basically though i would like a barn that looks the way it does on"the saddle club" with a office up stairs but there isnt a up stairs like a house its just one room and the room/office look out to the INSIDE of the barn and you can see the stalls and everyone passing by .plus a upstairs type thing where you keep hair but not like a room ROOM just like a platform with bars that looks out and it just has a bars going around on one side , NO wALLS [only on the side that it connects to to hold it up.

sorry if some of it is confusing.

    ps: nice question!

  • Well since I like being apart of big stables, I would make my own pretty big. 2 20 stall barns, 4 pastures, 2 round pends, 1 dressage areana, 1 indoor areana, 1 outdoor areana, 2 foaling stalls, mini cross country course, wash racks, medium sized tack rooms for everyone that boards at my stables, trailer parking, and a dumpster for all that pooooop. Haha big dreams, big money.

  • NOOOOOOO!!!!!! I just spent about an hour typing up an elaborate, horse-lovers' eutopia, but then it vanished, RIGHT when I was about to post it...*sob*...

I'll get back to ya right after I finish this assignment...darn computer...*mary goes of muttering about her hate for technology, regardless of the fact that deep down it helps...*

    Okay...

--I'd have a four-stall RCA barn (I'd have two Irish Sport Horses and two Connemaras)

--For each stall, there would be a tack trunk in front, containing the horse's blankets, special medications, standing/pillow wraps, etc.

--On the front of each stall would be a clipboard that would have all of each horse's infromation, such as age, breed, special needs, feed, etc.

--I'd have grilled partitions between the stalls so the horses had more ventilation and could socialize more.

--There would be two stalls on each side, directly facing eachother. Then, next to one of the sets would be two pony crossties, then across two horse crossties, then an office next to a lounge with a bathroom. On the other side, there'd be the feed room (with smartpaks of course!), and then the tackroom. In the tackroom, the horses would each have their own assigned color, and their own cute little brushbox (like this! http://store.horsegift.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?...

--At the end of the barn, there'd be a wash stall and one of those drier-crossties things...

--One entrance would be connected to a large indoor arena, while the other would lead to the outside, where there'd be two large pastures, a super horse-walker, trails (one with XC fences on it and one without), as well as a HUGE cross-country course, and an outdoor showjumping arena.

--This would be the arena footing I'd use: http://www.fibar.com/horses/fibar.htm

This would be the matting I'd use for the stalls: http://www.comfortstall.com/CS_Products_Comfortsta...

And this would be the footing for aisles, wash stalls, etc: http://www.comfortstall.com/CS_Products_DecoFlex.h...

--Oh, and each of the stalls would have dutch doors in the back so that it could lead to a run-out, which would provide ventilation and allow the horses to hang out outside, without being subject to the elements.

--The barn would be air conditioned, and would have a fly-spray system.

  • my ideal farm is in my backyard with at least 3 12x12 stalls, hot water wash rack and a feed/tack room.... indoor arena would be a plus but not needed... trails would also be a plus but a few acers of pasture and an outdoor arena with jumps is needed along with a place to store hay.. i'm simple i just need enough to keep my horse happy

  • This is a great question, I wish I had more time to answer it.

At least 6 stalls, indoor wash rack and tack room, attached indoor ring of the back... I could do this forever!
