Is creme fraiche different from crema natural?

I have some crema natural I bought from a Mexican supermarket (which is much better than American sour cream) and I was wondering if I could use it instead of creme fraiche. I know that I can make creme fraiche, but I don't want to have both in my fridge since I probably won't use either very much.

  • the creme fraiche i buy is directly from France so crema is Mexican right? made for mexican type dishes?might as well use sour cream if ure gonna use crema.

I personally would stick to creme fraiche (more delicate and light and just much better on the palate) depends on what you are making, if it's with caviar, pasta.. then creme fraiche..if it's just for mexican food then use the crema cause it's heavier and saltier.

  • dreme fraiche is a fresh cheese, and a lot less salty and greasy than crema natural.

Creme fraiche is lighter in flavour and can be used for a ot more (imo).Crema is too heavy for me, but has that slightly tangy sour cream flavour. Fraiche is a lighter, more tart cheesey flavour, less purely cream, you can actually eat creme fraiche with fruit, like a cottage cheese. You can difinitely use crema where a recipe would use fraiche, but the taste is going to be oilier0- heavier, more like thick salty cream, than fresh lighter tasting cheese.
