How to pursue a a career in Database Admin.?
Im currently in grade 12 and am taking all the courses that relate to computer science. Next year I hopefully will attend an institute of technology where I will apply for a 4 year degree in getting a bachelor degree in CS. However after 2 years I can specialize into learning Database admin, ie. oracle and sql. However, after looking through many employment opportunites they all require work experience which is no surprise. My question is, being a Database Admin worth it, Ive talked to a couple of people, one being the DBA for the city of seattle and another being a programmer at microsoft, 2 different avenues of CS. How can i get work experience in the field of a DBA, where do I start off. Thanks!

Work experience is the Catch-22 of most positions - can't get a job without experience but can't get experience without a job. However, entry-level DBA jobs do come along, which would be what you'd want to start out.
As to whether it's worth it, DBA positions certainly are attractive in terms of remuneration. They do require a certain mindset tho - much of the day-to-day work is fairly repetitive in nature: backups and restores, checking for bottlenecks, analyzing queries for efficiency, maintaining user profiles, etc. The only real creative side to the job comes when creating or modifying databases, and that doesn't really happen all that frequently. If you want to have a job with some creativity to it, find a smaller shop where the DBA is also a developer - that way you get the best of both worlds.
fairly no longer. in certainty...i've got wanted to end my PH D and have "skirted" around it through having some Masters and passable credit to earn a PH D in spite of the shown fact that did no longer get it pondering the shown fact that I wasn't "in a position" to anticipate the "duty" that would comprise the call and activity that i could have as quickly as I became a Psychologist. i did no longer want to be like lots of diverse training Psychologists and easily be in it for the money. I even have already have been given my own industry and am doing it to assist "human beings" pondering the shown fact that one i became as quickly as "harm" and the wonderful suited "care" wasn't given. I want to actual make an "influence" in human beings's lives, no longer in simple terms be there for a non everlasting era and disappear. Peace, Love & Happiness
