when you're in iMovie,go to the control bar at the top of the screen & click on "File" then "Import" and then find your picture. if you don't know where to find your Photo Booth pictures, you go to Pictures, and then Photo Booth. simple as that:)
Go to file>import>photo and you'll find your photo booth videos.
There is a step by step guide which is dedicating to demonstrate how to convert, trim, combine and edit video on Mac OS X .

Also, you can find some other software:

Well, you'll have to scan them, and then add them to the iPhoto library, and then iMovie can "see" them, so to speak.
