Is aids a man made disease?

With aids' sudden explosion after WW2, its rate of mutation and it prevalence in African and Gay communities people often claim its a man made virus.

What do you think?

If it isnt , where would you say its origins are?

  • I would have always said man made, but now i'm starting to see articles stating that there is no such thing (I assume in the accepted sense)

  • They're really isn't any proof. People want to believe that someone is responsible for this whole mess. HIV has been infecting people since the beginning of the 20th century. If you think that at that time people had the technology to create the world's most complex virus I don't know what to tell you. I do believe however that the epidemic could have been contained if the government was willing to act proactively. But during the initial outbreak in the US it was primarily affecting gays. Those were the Reagan years and homophobia pretty much trumped public safety. The idea was that if it's only killing gays than who gives a damn. So in that way it's sort of a man made epidemic (in the US at least)

  • well HIV (virus that causes aids) came from monkeys and went into humans late 1800/early 1900. not sure how, i'm pretty sure it was through hunters cutting/eating the monkey so the blood infected the hunter. that happened in africa by the way. so no, it's not man made, HIV develops into aids, and HIV came from monkeys, cross contamination, not sure how, theres lots of different theories. but anyway, thats how it all happened.

i guess you could say the facts it's so widespread manmade, through sex and blood, but the actual disease isnt man made.

  • Yes and No, I think it has morphed into being due to our interference with nature - I don't believe it was created on purpose though!

My favourite conspiracy theories are that it was a) caused by Africans getting frisky with monkey's and b) It was created by the Russians (whom apparently have the cure) to kill the rest of the world!

  • No, it just became apparent after WWII. The reason its so prevalent in the African community is because so many people there dont have one, single, partner, they have many. The reason for the gay community is because our bodies reject same sex organisms. Just the way we're made.

  • To understand what HIV is, let’s break it down:

H – Human – because this virus can only infect human beings.

I – Immunodeficiency – because the virus creates a weakened immune system by destroying white blood cells (immune system cells) called T-cells or CD4 cells.

V – Virus – because the organism is a virus and is incapable of reproducing itself without help from specific cells in the human body.

“Human Immunodeficiency Virus” is a very tiny virus, much like other viruses you may be familiar with, such as the viruses that cause the “flu” or the common cold. However, HIV is different from other viruses because the immune system can never fully get rid of it. The virus hides in the immune system and other cells in the body.

HIV causes significant damage to the immune system, leaving it open to other dangerous infections. HIV infection can lead to AIDS.

    What is AIDS?

A – Acquired – because AIDS is a disease that is not hereditary but develops from contact with, or infection by, a disease-causing agent (in this case, HIV).

I – Immune – because AIDS affects the body's immune system, which includes all the organs and cells that work to fight off infection or foreign substances.

D – Deficiency – because HIV makes the immune system unable to function properly.

S – Syndrome – because AIDS is a complex illness with a wide range of complications and symptoms.

“Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome” is the final stage of HIV infection. People at this stage of HIV disease are vulnerable to opportunistic infections. When someone has one or more specific infections, certain cancers, or a very low number of T-cells, the person is considered to have AIDS. A person with AIDS requires medical intervention and treatment to prevent death.

When the epidemic began in the early 1980s, the first cases of HIV and AIDS were found among men who had sex with men (MSM) in major cities. Today, however, the picture of the epidemic looks very different. Many new cases of HIV occur among heterosexual women of color, ethnic minorities, and people who live in rural areas.

While the number of new cases is still highest among MSM, it is important to remember that HIV is transmitted primarily by risky sexual and drug-taking behaviors. If you engage in those behaviors, without taking protective measures, you are at risk of HIV infection—regardless of the gender of your partner.

  • Well in a sense yes, considering that 80-85% of new cases of HIV are gay or bisexual men. However, this is do the nature of the sexual acts they are involved in.

HIV is not nearly as easily spread through hetrosexual/vaginal intercourse, as through anal intercourse. Mainly because of the teaing and bleeding that is involved in that.

  • Funny hardly anyone has come up with a theory that some irisponsible lab technician let it out and it was covered up !

  • i believe it is & i have also heard is curable with a mineral cleanse diet: blood electrification & colloidal silver [maybe that's what magic johnson did]

  • the whole world likes being taken up the wrong un.
