downgrade directx on vista?

i have directx 10 installed on my new vista laptop but i need to downgrade to 9.0c for some of my older software to work properly on my computer. Is it possible to downgrade to 9.0c from 10? If so how?

  • Directx 9 won't work with Vista anymore. It isn't only the directx version that makes your prorams incompatible with Vista... If there isn't any update for them the only way to use them is to dual boot with Xp or find something equivalent that's compatible with Vista.

  • Hi you just install directx 9 off the cd and that should do the trick.

If not you can try to run in compatibility mode. I have six old games running on vista with no problem. There are some games that are only for xp which loose some function but all in all you should be able to run your games.

  • on an identical time as i'm conscious domicile windows 7 is dazzling, i do no longer see what the extensive subject with Vista is aside from the quantity RAM it makes use of. If i exchange into going to advise up/downgrade, i might could say improve. i like using extras, no remember if it is utilising each and every change in my vehicle two times on my 10 minute journey to paintings, or positive tuning the assessment and factor settings on my television. With W7, the quantity of random yet cutting-edge, and for the main section, useful tweeks is only impressive. So no longer in ordinary terms will your video games paintings positive, cuz the RAM would be unfastened'd up yet you will have the main modern equipment. a factor to make, do no longer actual purchase an improve disc, get the completed version. Cuz in case you ever could do a equipment fix, till you made a restoration disc once you fist turn your computer on, you will could circulate out and purchase Vista to do a equipment fix.

  • Direct X 9 was not designed for Vista, you will have a hard time trying to do that. Best option is looking for upgrades for your older programs to help them work on Vista.

  • Hi, today i installed CSI : MIAMI on my laptop and it went through the installation and asked me if i wanted to get directX 9 even though i had 10 but i click NO and it went through ok.

But i seem to remember it mention it wouldn't overwrite other directX files. So i assume you can install 9 too?

  • maybe if you have an uninstaller

    or

    you re-install xp
