Premium to Unleaded gas.?
As you know gas prices are outrageous.. and I'm only 16 years old so I kinda want to spend the money I earn in different ways.
I have a Mercedes-Benz c230 kompressor and it takes premium gas.
I was wondering if it would be ok if I put unleaded instead of premium in it..
I have done it once before and it just smelled a lot like gas but that's it. I didn't hear anything unusual and my car didn't act up.
I didn't see any gas leaking out anywhere or anything so I think I'm alright..
but is this ok to use unleaded if I can withstand the smell of gas? lol

Alternate use regular and use premiun every third fill-up.
They are both gasoline, so I dont see why you would smell gas when using the unleaded. The only difference between the two is unleaded is 87 octane and premium is 89-92 octane. Octane is a more flammable fuel that is added to gasoline when it is made, so the only thing premium fuel does is burn hotter. On mithbusters, they proved that premium does absolutely nothing in your average car, but in luxury cars, they manufacturers set the ECM (Engine Control Module) to detect the higher octane, but it will adjust itself when it detects the lower octane. With these cars, usually the reason they recommend using premium is because it needs to burn a little hotter or else usually there will be a slight knock coming from the drive train. If it is working for you, do it. My only question is how come you can afford a car like that, but you cant buy gas for it? O well, good luck!!
all gas is now unleaded the difference between the two yo are talking about is octane.octane is an additive in the gas that makes it more explosive.the higher the octane the better the explosion the more power you have in the motor.read your manual and it will tell you the lowest octane that you "should use in you car".if it runs fine with a lower octane you will not hurt your car but being a c230 you will lose a lot of power in your gas pedal.as for the smell it should be no different smelling.hope that helps explain it for you.
Look at the octange rating in your book. This is the gas you should use. You will loose mileage per gallon and cause just slightly more wear to the motor for using gas of a lower rating. In the shourt term though you will notice no other problems. If the car starts making pinging noises or running when cut off for a few seconds it may be getting a carbon build up from running the cheaper gas. You may be better to just use the correct gas ratings. Try the middle grade and see how it acts.
The cars engine was designed to run on Premium. Your performance will suffer, it has a higher Octane rating. You can buy a Octane booster from an Auto parts store and just pour one in the tank everytime you feel up
The computer will attempt, but fail to compensate for the unleaded, and you will get engine knock and possible damage. Use what the manufacturer calls for. If you can't afford that, get a vehicle that uses regular unleaded, or park it.
Added: also if it's still under factory warranty, you have voided that by not using the premium.
if you can afford the mercedes then what is 10 cents a gallon more for premium fuel, thats one cup of coffee less for you per day to protect your engine and drivability
ok dear, try this.get some reg.gas and get some octane boost and put in it.you can get it at auto zone and it dont cost that much.or what about using the mid grade.(the middle pump)
