how do i connect a seagate ultra ATA hard drive to a seagate SATA hard drive?

i have an older seagate ultra ATA hard drive. i bought a new dell computer and the hard drive is a SATA. how do i connect my old seagate to the new computer so that i can use both hard drives. i bought an IDE to SATA converter kit. but have no idea what to do. help!!!!! please

  • 1. Make sure the old drive is pinned as CS (cable select) or Slave. The jumper is a small cap that covers 2 pins on the back of the drive usually next to the power plug slot. The legend will be stamped or printed on the hard drive.

    2. Mount the HD in the case, attach the converter kit and plug it into a serial port. (look at how the existing drive is plugged in an find a similar plug next to it (may be numbered, if so use #2). Connect a power dongle off the power supply.

    3. Boot-er-up.

  • Sata is a newer and faster technology that can transfer data at 150 MB/s or 300 MB/s where as ultra ata transfers data at up 133 MB/s. Sata cables are much smaller than ultra ata cables
