A great warrior fought for Bob. Would that be imperfect or preterite. Since in sentences like this you could thing imperfect wise, the warrior could still be fighting for bob. However, you can view it as completed.

I think you're thinking too far into it. "Fought" implies a past completed action, so it would be preterite.
There is not a specific time frame that the event occurred, therefore you should use imperfect.
